Our Facility

The OrthoCarolina Wellness Facility features a top-of-the-line 50-yard turf field, strength and conditioning equipment such as Hammer Strength, Life Fitness, and Rogue, and some of the most highly certified and experienced personal trainers and strength and conditioning coaches. On-site OrthoCarolina physical therapists offer first class orthopedic services and comprehensive corporate wellness opportunities.

Our Team

  Alexa Rooney- Athletic Trainer   Alexa splits her time between sports therapy and the work conditioning program. After earning her undergraduate degree from Jacksonville University in Florida where she played soccer, she decided to pursue a Master’s degree in Athletic Training at Montana State University. Her injury as a collegiate athlete led her to pursue a career helping others overcome their injuries.

  John Colville, PT, DPT, CSCS.   John has been a physical therapist at OrthoCarolina for 12 of his 15 years in the field. In addition to holding a Doctorate of Physical Therapy, his credentials include certifications in strength and conditioning. In his spare time, John is a certified USA Rugby referee and officiates local youth, high school and collegiate rugby matches.

John has been a physical therapist at OrthoCarolina for 12 of his 15 years in the field.   Janelle Penatzer- Wellness Program Manager    Janelle manages OrthoCarolina’s Corporate Wellness Program and works at the OC Wellness Center. She received her Bachelors Degree in Kinesiology-Movement Science from Penn State. Since graduating, Janelle has worked as a Physical Therapy Technician and has spent the past 7 years working in Corporate Wellness, sharing her passion of health and wellness.

Since graduating, Janelle has worked as a Physical Therapy Technician and has spent the past 7 years working in Corporate Wellness, sharing her passion of health and wellness.

 
  Matt Anderson- Strength Coach    USAW   Matt Anderson is from Charlotte and attended East Carolina University. He graduated in 2015 with a BS in Exercise Science. He has been a strength/conditioning and speed coach for three years. He has played both baseball and basketball . He is very committed to his own exercise and training program. Matt’s commitment and teaching style are contagious and very motivating to his clients. His clientele has ranged in age from youth league to collegiate, semi-pro, MLB and NFL athletes.

  Susan Goode- Patient Services Specialist   Susan has worked for OrthoCarolina for five years coming from Levine Children’s Hospital where she worked as the Director of the Child Life Department. She started as a Patient Services Specialist at the OrthoCarolina office in Monroe and came to Sports Therapy as the Lead PSS in April 2014.. She has found her niche and loves working with high school and college athletes.

  Katherine Leslie- Patient Services Specialist   Katherine hails from the Georgia coast where she retired from a career in the airline industry to stay at home with her children and volunteer in her community. She started as a Patient Services Specialist at the Sports PT Randolph office in 2015 and transferred to the Sports Therapy location to handle our Worker’s Comp Return to Work Program. Katherine loves the fact that no two patients or two days are the same, and she gets to see patients regain their quality of life after injury.

  Chris Gabriel PT, OCS, CSCS, PES   Chris has been working with all levels of athletes from youth through professional for over 19 years. He is board certified in orthopaedics through the American Physical Therapy Association, and is a Certified Strength and Conditioning specialist through the National Strength and Conditioning Association. He is also a Performance Enhancements Specialist through the National Academy of Sports Medicine. His clinical interests include late stage ACL rehab and functional testing, as well as working with throwing athletes.

He was a defensive lineman at Duke University and graduated in 2005. Coach “O” played with several NFL teams. He also played in the Canadian Football League. He has been training youth and adults since 2009, ranging in ages from 7-year-olds and up. A specific area of expertise is with collegiate and NFL players. He enjoys passing his knowledge and experience to young athletes.
